This is “Our Past Is Present” from
the Geary County Historical Society.
One of our former curators was
searching old newspapers for data of interest when it was discovered that there
was some interesting information, which will be shared with our readers this
morning. For instance….A notice, which
was printed on October 18, 1884 read as follows: “If Mrs. Hammerburg, who had an infant child
abducted from or near Junction City in 1880 will address Mrs. George F. Johnson
at Forrest, in Ness County Kansas, she will receive information as to the
whereabouts of her little girl.” That
sounds ominous – doesn’t it?
Another article published on October
25, 1884 stated: “It was reported that a wise Quaker lady used to say in her
sermons, that there were three follies of men, which always amazed her. The first was their climbing trees to shake
fruit down, when, if they only waited a little, it would fall of its own
accord. The second was that men go to
war to kill each other, when if they waited, they would all die
naturally.” The third was sort of a
question. “Why do men run after women? If they would they did not do so, the
women would be sure to run after them.”
I am sure
the women who read this blog have more than three things they find that men do
- which from the ladies point of view is quite odd. I know one woman who has a
long list for this man.
Well, that’s
today’s story on “Our Past Is Present” from the Geary County Historical
Society.
